Eating the right foods provides the proper fuel for optimal fitness. Whether you are a competing athlete or every-day fitness enthusiast, becoming your most fit self starts with making smarter meal choices that emphasize proteins and whole natural foods in every meal.
Our bodies adjust to and quite literally absorb everything we put into it. Providing our bodies the proper nutrients needed for muscle growth and everyday health is crucial to achieving our short-term fitness goals as well as longevity. And, it takes consistency and focus to get and stay on track.
Food fuels each and every workout we perform. As we feed our bodies the macronutrients needed to maintain lean muscle or grow more, we find ourselves growing and performing better. This results in results achieved more quickly and most importantly, maintained for the long term.
Founder Gabby had been watching clients struggle for months not knowing why all the work they were putting in at the gym wasn't ultimately being reflected in the same body staring back at them in the mirror. "It's protein...you need to eat more protein" she would always tout, but almost too quietly to ever truly be heard or applied. Her clients felt some of the benefits of her workouts, but the best benefits of all (increased mobility, lean muscle mass, and improved cardiovascular health, to name a few) were never fully realized due to improper fueling.
Her vision for Fit + Fueled is one out of her personal passion for both exercise AND fueling her body correctly, resulting in everyday fitness. When her clients began to prioritize their own protein intake by either purchasing her meals or falling in love with a specific protein powder, they began to see results. And, by applying the fundamentals above, these results lasted.
The current recommended dietary allowance (RDA) is 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. Endurance or strength athletes should consume between 1.2 to 2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight daily. According to the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, most healthy adults 19 years old and older should obtain between 10-35% of their daily calories from protein.
Muscles require amino acids, which are their building blocks, in order to build and repair through muscle protein synthesis. Amino acids (20 total, 9 of which are essential) are found in high protein sources coming from both plants and animals, though animal sources tend to have higher, more robust amino acid profiles.
If you do not consume adequate amounts of protein in your diet, your body will slowly break down muscle over time in order to collect the amino acids needed to support body functions and preserve more important tissues.
Help your body build muscle by feeding it the macronutrients it needs!
